Rabat – The supervisory board of BMCI, an affiliate of BNP Paribas, on Thursday appointed Hicham Seffa as the group’s new Director-General and member of the board of directors.
According to numerous reports, the bank’s supervisory board extended its best wishes to Seffa while sending warm thanks to Rachid Marrakchi, former DG of BMCI, for his “long and fruitful collaboration within BMCI.”
Marrakchi is set to retire on December 31, 2022. As a result, Seffa is expected to soon succeed Marrakchi and Philippe Dumel, the current chairman of BMCI’s Board of Directors.
Seffa’s appointment as the group’s new chairman remains subject to authority validation. However, the transition is expected to be completed by the first months of 2023.
Seffa has over 27 years of experience working in the banking sector in Morocco, Tunisia, and Egypt. His early senior positions date back to September 1994 in Casablanca where he was appointed as an adjoint director of numerous agencies of Credit du Maroc.
After serving as a senior banker and director of transactions in the same bank, Seffa left to join Attijariwafa bank in May 2005 as a project manager. He later served as director of customer services from October 2005 to 2011.
In May 2011, Seffa received his first international appointment as the Director General of Attijariwafa Bank Tunisia.
He served in the position for eight years before moving to Cairo in July 2019 as Managing Director of Attijariwafa Bank Egypt.
With over 17 years of work experience with Morocco’s largest bank, Attijariwafa Bank, Seffa’s recent appointment within BMCI is aimed at helping to expand the group’s operations across the country.
