Yaya Barrow is the Managing Director of Gambia National Petroleum Corporation. He comes from a private sector background and has more than 25 years of senior management experience in the financial services sector having worked for Standard Chartered Bank in the Gambia, the Middle East, India, and East Africa. He was Regional Head, of Banking Operations for Eastern and Southern Africa at the shared service center in Standard Chartered Bank, Kenya with oversight of 6 countries. Before that, Yaya Barrow worked as Chief Information Officer, at SCB Afghanistan. This was preceded by a 14-year stint at Standard Chartered Bank Gambia. More recently, he held the position of Deputy Managing Director and Head of Operations at Agib Bank Gambia before taking up the position of Managing Director, at GNPC in 2018.
Mr Barrow’s certifications started with a Higher Teachers Certificate from the University of Sierra Leone, Milton Margai Teachers College with a Major in Mathematics and a minor in Geography. He went on to become an AFGRAD Fellow and studied at the University of Tennessee Knoxville where he bagged a Master’s Degree in Public Administration specialising in Public Finance and a B.Sc. in Business Administration with double majors in Finance and Mathematics.
