Singer Eddy Kenzo expressed disapproval of remarks made by Fangone Forest leader Alien Skin last week, claiming that he detested Ugandan music awards.
Kenzo was responding to Alien’s expression of disappointment during an interview, that Ugandan awards are not monetary in nature.
Alien Skin, who has received several awards for his music this year said he would have preferred cash to plaques.
Alien said, “These awards they give; they are just crafted from wood and they just put a little paint.”
“You cannot even sell them anywhere, if anyone wants them, they can come and get them. Don’t give us awards, just give us money.”
In response, Kenzo stated that any honor given to an artist for their excellence is worthy of celebrating.
He said, “An award is an award, it doesn’t necessarily have to involve money.”
“Money is not everything; that recognition alone is very important because many people dream about it but never get it, so if God hands it to you, you need to appreciate it.”
As an artist who has won multiple local and international music awards, Kenzo said he personally understands why Ugandan awards don’t come with cash.
He added, “Awards here don’t have money on them because you can see our country we are still developing.”
“But that recognition alone is very important and we should not take it for granted.”
At the recently concluded 2023 HiPippo Awards, Kenzo won the Artist of the Year award, while Alien Skin won Best Breakthrough Artist and Most Viral Song.
