Mohamed Shameel Aziz Joosub is a prominent South African business leader and the Chief Executive Officer of Vodacom Group, one of Africa’s largest mobile communications companies, serving more than 55 million customers. He has held the role since March 2013, steering Vodacom’s growth and innovation across the continent.
Biography
Born in Laudium, Transvaal, Joosub pursued a Bachelor of Accounting Science at the University of South Africa, followed by a Master of Business Administration from the University of Southern Queensland in Australia. His academic foundation laid the groundwork for a career defined by strategic leadership and international exposure.
Before taking the helm at Vodacom, Joosub spent 18 months as CEO of Vodafone España, gaining valuable global experience within the Vodafone Group. He credits much of his early professional development to mentorship from Alan Knott-Craig, the founder of Vodacom and later CEO of rival operator Cell C.
Leadership & Board Roles
Beyond his executive responsibilities, Joosub plays an influential role in shaping Africa’s telecoms landscape. He has served on the Vodacom Board since 2012 and joined the Safaricom Board in 2017, contributing to strategic decisions at two of the continent’s most impactful mobile operators.
